All the Small Things

I was cleaning out my bass drum (for some reason my old bandmates used to shove papers in my bass drum when we were done with gigs) and I found an old set list. I remember this gig really well, because it was the first weekend after I graduated highschool. We all had a great time...and got really hammered.

Here is the set list ( I am getting really nostalgic as I read this again )

  • First Set

    1. All the Small Things - Blink 182

    2. In the Meantime - Spacehog

    3. Hard to Handle - Black Crowes

    4. Walk this Way - Aerosmith

    5. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix

    6. What would you say? - Dave Matthews

    7. Creep - Radiohead

    8. Real Slim Shady - Eminem vs Back in Black - AC/DC; we thought we were really clever and combined songs like this a lot... although I don't remember how this went, and I can't imagine it was any good

  • Second Set

    1. Everlong - Foo Fighters

    2. Original 2 - one of our originals

    3. Jeremy - Pearl Jam

    4. Fight for your Right - Beastie Boys God I fucking hate this song

    5. Enter Sandman - Metallica

    6. Drops of Jupiter - Train

    7. She Talks to Angels - Black Crowes; Our lead singer was really into the Black Crowes

    8. Song 2 (Mommy?) - Blur ; this is how I wrote it on the sheet, but I don't remember what (Mommy?) meant. I think we added a big guitar solo and jam at the end and then repeated the last verse or something. We were really big on solos and doing 'band things' that we thought were clever and cool...when instead it was just like musical masturbation-- only entertaining for the ones doing it

    9. Freebird (Booby Dick)- Lynyrd Skynyrd ; what can you expect, were in the south!? The booby dick thing was- at the end of Freebird when everyone is just holding that G and I am doing rolls and splashy stuff on the crashes... all of a sudden I do that Moby Dick syncopated riff on the snare and we play a phrase of Moby Dick by Zepplin (we shamelessly stole this idea from Dream Theater)

  • Third Set

    1. Vasoline - Stone Temple Pilots

    2. Dancin' Days - Zepplin

    3. Im on the outside - Stained

    4. Original I - something we wrote

    5. Sweet Home Alabama - Skynyrd I seriously hate lynyrd skynyrd

    6. Stairway to Heaven - Zepplin

    7. Tuesdays Gone - we played the Metallica version

    8. Rearview Mirror - Pearl Jam I got good calf muscle workout on the end of this one

Good times- I really enjoyed this show-- its one of those movie-like memories. As much as I hated high school I miss being in a band and playing shows.

Much Love,
Steve
