- First story was about a single mom, who left her 3 month old and toddler at home while she left to go pick up her other kid from school. While gone, the kids set the house on fire and perished in the flames. When the aunt of the kids was interviewed, she was asked if she felt remorse...she said "no". This is obviously a tragedy, but how can you possibly leave kids this young home alone! They interviewed the other members of the family, inquiring why the Aunt would say she had no remorse-- they said she was probably on drugs. Winner winner chicken dinner!!
- Next was a story of two groups of three high school kids. The two groups were apparently sending harsh words over text messages to try to instigate each other into a fight for "no apparent reason". The one group showed up to the other groups house (2 brothers and a friend), and two kids were beaten in the head with a baseball bat so badly that they are barely alive in the hospital (probably not going to make it). This was just two groups of school kids attacking each other for 'no reason' (says the families, police, and the news). This sickens me. Hurray for southern family rivalries (honor system).
- Next was my favorite: a Tennessee man was arrested for sodomizing a horse while a buddy watched and filmed it. In good taste, the news cast had 'Horse Sex Scandal' plastered on the bottom of the screen. Apparently, this was the man who a few years prior video taped a horse having sex with another man, who later died from internal injuries (Mr. Hands?). Hurray Horse Sex!!
- Lastly, two city council members (a white man and a black man) got into an argument on camera. For some bizarre reason, the black city council member said to the other in an angry, taunting manner: "You better be ready- I'm a real black man....are you a real white man??" . To which the white council member, looking stumped, said "what does it matter?". I don't even know what he's talking about...but... HURRAY southern racism!
What's the news like where you live?
Much Love,
Steve

News is the same wherever you go. Same shit different channel. If it bleeds it leads. All that good stuff.
Bestiality is (very recently) a felony in Washington because of a guy dying from internal injuries from having sex with a horse. I don't know whether or not it was Mr. Hands
I agree with you. I don't normally watch the news. Occasionally I check CNN when I'm up early, but I have no idea what's going on locally
It is not yet as bad here (in the middle of Europe). Most big channels are not entirely financed by commercials and thus the government can assign them a kind of "educational & cultural mandate", which forces them to bring in the news mainly political and cultural affairs. However, the more free market based the channel is, the more sex and crime it brings.
Haha. I'm glad you're not a proper Southern USA person then. That's some really bizarre news. I must admit that we do get very bizarre news here in Australia, but definitely not all in one day. But we do have news that's not quite news-worthy, like a crocodile sunbaking on top of a trap made the news today. Awesome!
1. A tremendous racial grudge still lingers
2. People, generally, do seem a little ignorant
3. In the seventh grade at an honor roll pizza party someone turned around, tapped me on the shoulder and asked "Why don't you talk black?"
4. Eh. Just see this post.
... which is why I moved.
I love Austin. :-)
We have most of the same nonsense here in Philadelphia - a supposedly sophisticated northeastern city - although horse sodomy - that's definitely different
lol
*refrains from commenting on the usa*
:P
I never watch the news for exactly the same reasons. Every time I do turn it on, or catch a minute of news in passing, I hear something else that makes me sick to my stomach. It's not just in your area, it's here in NJ, and all over the world. Violence has become a way of life, scandal and death are commonplace.
Well, except for the horses.
In NYC horse love is put on the stage and called Equus. If Memphis gets too bad, you can always decamp to Germantown.
News up here is talking about budget cuts, fires, city elections, and other stuff that make up a typical newscast
@J
Are you from here? I actually grew up in germantown! And yes that would at least keep me away from the house fires and potentially the horse sex...but you never know-- anyone could fall prey to horse sex!
You should start chewing tobacco!
Soon someone will argue that marriage should not just be for a man and a woman, or even a man and man, but include a man and his horse.
I can hardly make dispersions about the South when I come from Idaho, a state that has given the country both Senator Larry Craig, and Sarah Palin.
im in memphis 2 so yup same
